MT4 to cTrader Trade Copier

Keep an existing MT4 strategy running and mirror it onto cTrader, without rewriting the EA or renting a VPS.

ConnectX Copy links an MT4 master to a cTrader destination, which is the usual route for traders with an established MT4 expert advisor who want to trade at a cTrader broker without porting the strategy.

The MT4 side is order and ticket based while cTrader is position based, so the two models do not line up exactly. That, plus the absence of stop modification on cTrader, is what shapes this pairing.

How MT4 → cTrader copying works

01

MT4 master is watched

The MT4 account connects with its login, password and broker server, and its trade activity arrives on a real-time push stream.

02

The order is translated

The MT4 symbol is matched to cTrader’s name and the lot is converted for the contract size difference before your sizing mode is applied.

03

cTrader executes

The position opens with any stop or target included at entry, and follows the master’s closes and partial closes.

What ConnectX Copy can copy on this pair

Including what it cannot. The limits are as useful as the features when you are choosing which account should lead.

  • Entry and close copying
  • Stop loss and take profit at entry
  • Partial close
  • Pending ordersA copied order carrying an entry price is placed as pending on cTrader.
  • Reverse copying
  • Stop changes after entrycTrader has no order-modify path. A trailing stop on the MT4 master will not trail on the copy.
  • Real-time stream on the destinationcTrader is reconciled by polling.

Risk and lot-sizing controls

All five sizing modes apply: Fixed Lot, Lot Multiplier, Balance Multiplier, Fixed Balance Multiplier and Equity Multiplier.

Contract alignment converts the lot by the ratio of MT4 to cTrader contract size and then rounds to cTrader’s lot step. Leaving it on is almost always correct across this boundary.

Equity protection is the practical safety net here, because it works at account level and does not depend on adjusting per-trade stops.

Filters by symbol, lot range, direction, magic number and comment apply — magic number filtering is particularly useful when one MT4 terminal runs several EAs and only one should be copied.

Symbol mapping

MT4 brokers use suffixes freely and cTrader uses its own naming, so a mapping step is common on this pairing.

The matcher normalises both names, then tries exact, prefix, bi-directional contains and contract-size proximity.

Explicit mappings take precedence and only need setting once per symbol.

Platform-specific behaviour

MT4 is order based: each trade is a ticket, and hedging is always available. cTrader is position based. The copier tracks the relationship for you, but the two platforms will not always display an identical list of open items even when exposure matches.

MT4 magic numbers have no equivalent on cTrader. They remain useful as a filter on the master side, deciding which EA’s trades are copied at all.

Important limitations

  • Stops cannot be moved after entry on cTrader, so trailing-stop strategies will not trail on the copy.
  • The destination is polled rather than pushed.
  • Magic numbers do not carry across to cTrader; use them to filter on the MT4 side instead.

Setting it up

  1. 01Connect the MT4 account with its login, password and broker server.
  2. 02Connect the cTrader account through the cTrader OAuth screen and select the trading account.
  3. 03Create a copier with MT4 as master and cTrader as destination.
  4. 04Choose a sizing mode and, if one terminal runs several EAs, add a magic number filter so only the intended strategy is copied.
  5. 05Map any unresolved symbols, then start the copier.

MT4 → cTrader questions

Can I copy only one EA’s trades?

Yes. Filter by magic number on the MT4 master so only that strategy’s trades are copied.

Do stops copy from MT4 to cTrader?

A stop sent with the entry is placed. Moving it later is not possible, because cTrader has no order-modify path.

Do magic numbers carry over to cTrader?

No. cTrader has no equivalent, so they are useful for filtering on the MT4 side rather than as a label on the copy.

Do I need my EA running on a VPS?

The EA runs wherever it already runs. The copying itself is in our cloud, so no additional VPS is needed for the connection.
