MT5 to MT4 Trade Copier
Drive an MT4 account from an MT5 strategy, keeping stops, closes and sizing in step across brokers.
ConnectX Copy links an MT5 master to an MT4 destination. Both ends are MetaTrader, so the full feature set applies: stops copy at entry and follow later changes, pending orders can be mirrored, and both sides receive a real-time push stream.
The direction matters more than it first appears. An MT5 master can be a netting account and can trade instruments MT4 brokers do not list, so this pairing needs different handling from MT4 → MT5 rather than being its mirror image.
How MT5 → MT4 copying works
MT5 master is watched
The MT5 account is connected with its login, password and broker server and its activity arrives on a push stream.
The order is translated
The MT5 symbol is matched to the MT4 broker’s name and the lot is converted for the destination’s contract size before your sizing mode is applied.
MT4 executes and stays in sync
The MT4 account opens the position and follows subsequent closes, partial closes and stop changes.
What ConnectX Copy can copy on this pair
Including what it cannot. The limits are as useful as the features when you are choosing which account should lead.
- Entry and close copying
- Stop loss and take profit at entryControlled per copier by the Copy SL and Copy TP switches.
- Stop changes after entryBoth platforms expose an order-modify path, so stop changes on the master follow through.
- Pending orders
- Partial close
- Real-time stream on both sides
- Reverse copying
Risk and lot-sizing controls
All five sizing modes apply: Fixed Lot, Lot Multiplier, Balance Multiplier, Fixed Balance Multiplier and Equity Multiplier.
Contract alignment converts the lot by the ratio of master to destination contract size, then rounds to the MT4 broker’s lot step.
Equity protection applies to the MT4 destination independently of the master.
Filters by symbol, lot range, direction, magic number and comment apply, as does an optional trade delay.
Symbol mapping
The matcher normalises both names by stripping slashes, dots, hashes and underscores, then tries exact, prefix, bi-directional contains and contract-size proximity in that order.
This direction produces unmatched symbols more often than MT4 → MT5, because MT5 brokers commonly list instruments — indices, shares, some crypto — that the MT4 destination does not carry at all.
When there is genuinely no corresponding instrument, no amount of mapping will help; the sensible response is a symbol filter so the copier ignores those trades rather than failing on them.
Platform-specific behaviour
An MT5 master may be a netting account, where the broker aggregates positions per symbol. Two entries in the same direction appear as one larger position, so the MT4 destination — which is always hedging — will not necessarily hold the same number of individual positions even though the net exposure matches.
MT4 has no concept of some MT5 order types, so the practical set of what can be mirrored is bounded by the destination, not the source.
Important limitations
- Instruments the MT4 broker does not offer cannot be copied. Filter them out rather than leaving the copier to fail on each attempt.
- A netting MT5 master does not map one-to-one onto hedging MT4 positions; net exposure is mirrored, individual tickets are not.
- The final lot is rounded to the MT4 broker’s lot step, so a small converted size can round down.
Setting it up
- 01Connect the MT5 account with its login, password and broker server.
- 02Connect the MT4 account the same way.
- 03Create a copier with MT5 as master and MT4 as destination.
- 04Choose a sizing mode and set Copy SL / Copy TP as required.
- 05Add a symbol filter for anything the MT4 broker does not list, then start the copier.
Common use cases
MT5 strategy, MT4-only broker
Trade an MT5 account while a broker that still offers only MT4 follows along.
Legacy account kept in step
Keep an older MT4 account trading the same book as your main MT5 account.
Prop firm on MT4
Mirror a personal MT5 account into a funded MT4 account with independent limits.

MT5 → MT4 questions
Is this just MT4 to MT5 in reverse?
Not quite. An MT5 master can be a netting account and can trade instruments MT4 brokers do not list, so symbol coverage and position mapping need more attention in this direction.
What happens to symbols MT4 does not have?
They cannot be copied. Add a symbol filter so the copier ignores them rather than attempting each one.
Do stops still copy?
Yes, at entry and afterwards. Both platforms expose an order-modify path.
Does a netting MT5 account still work as a master?
Yes. Net exposure is mirrored, but a netting master aggregates per symbol, so the hedging MT4 destination will not always hold the same number of separate positions.
