Copy Trades Between MT4 and MT5 Instantly — Cross-Platform Trade Copier Guide

Step-by-step guide to copying trades between MT4 and MT5 accounts at different brokers. No VPS, no EA — just cloud-based cross-platform trade replication.

Why Copy Trades Between MT4 and MT5?

MT4 and MT5 are the two most popular trading platforms in the world, but they're not natively compatible. MetaQuotes designed them as completely separate ecosystems — you can't directly link an MT4 account to an MT5 account, and there's no built-in way to replicate trades between them.

This creates a real problem for traders who:

  • Have accounts at different brokers — Some brokers only offer MT4, others only MT5. If your strategy runs on MT4 but your best spreads are at an MT5-only broker, you need a bridge.
  • Manage multiple client accounts — Clients may be on different platforms. You shouldn't have to place the same trade manually on both MT4 and MT5.
  • Are migrating from MT4 to MT5 — You want to keep your MT4 accounts running while gradually moving to MT5, without duplicating manual effort.
  • Trade at prop firms — Many prop firms use MT5 or proprietary platforms, but your personal account might be on MT4.

The Problem with Traditional Solutions

Before cloud-based copiers, traders had limited options:

MethodLimitation
Local bridge EARequires VPS, only works when terminal is open, breaks on updates
File-based copyingSlow (1-5 second delays), unreliable, requires both terminals on same VPS
Signal servicesYour strategy becomes public, no direct account control
Manual copyingImpossible to execute simultaneously, slippage on every trade

All of these approaches share the same fundamental flaw: they were designed for a single-platform world. Cross-platform copying was an afterthought.

How ConnectXCopy Bridges MT4 and MT5

ConnectXCopy was built from the ground up for cross-platform trade copying. Instead of trying to bridge two incompatible EAs, it connects directly to both MT4 and MT5 broker servers from the cloud.

Here's how it works:

  1. Cloud connection — ConnectXCopy connects to your MT4 and MT5 accounts via broker server APIs. No EA installation, no terminal window needed.
  2. Real-time monitoring — The system monitors your master account for any trade activity: new orders, modifications, partial closes, full closes.
  3. Instant replication — When a trade event is detected on your MT4 master, it's immediately replicated on your MT5 slave (or vice versa) in under 200 milliseconds.
  4. Symbol mapping — ConnectXCopy automatically maps symbols between platforms. EURUSD on MT4 becomes EURUSD on MT5, even if brokers use different naming conventions like EURUSDm or EURUSD.raw.

Step-by-Step Setup: MT4 to MT5 Copying

Step 1: Create Your Account

Sign up at connectxcopy.com. Registration takes 30 seconds — just email and password.

Step 2: Add Your MT4 Account (Master)

Go to Accounts in the dashboard and click Add Account. Select MT4 as the platform, enter your account number, password (investor or main), and select your broker's server from the dropdown. ConnectXCopy maintains a database of 3,000+ broker servers.

Step 3: Add Your MT5 Account (Slave)

Repeat the process for your MT5 account. Select MT5 as the platform, enter the credentials, and choose the broker server.

Step 4: Create a Copier

Go to Copiers and click New Copier. Select your MT4 account as the master and your MT5 account as the slave. Configure your settings:

  • Lot sizing — Fixed lot (e.g., always 0.1), multiplier (e.g., 2x the master's lot), or balance ratio (proportional to account balance).
  • Copy stop loss / take profit — Enable to replicate SL/TP levels on the slave account.
  • Symbol mapping — Usually automatic, but you can set custom mappings if needed.
  • Equity protection — Optional drawdown limit to pause copying if the slave account loses too much.

Step 5: Activate

Click Start Copier. From this moment, every trade you open on MT4 will automatically appear on your MT5 account. Modifications and closes are synced too.

Common Issues and Solutions

Different Symbol Names

Broker A calls it EURUSD, Broker B calls it EURUSDm. ConnectXCopy handles this automatically with its symbol mapping engine. If you encounter an unmapped symbol, you can add a custom mapping in the copier settings.

Different Lot Sizes

Some brokers use micro lots (0.01), others use mini lots (0.1). Use the lot multiplier or balance ratio mode to scale positions appropriately between accounts of different sizes.

Timezone Differences

MT4 and MT5 brokers often run on different server times. This doesn't affect copying — ConnectXCopy works on trade events, not timestamps.

MT5 to MT4 Copying Works Too

Everything described above works in reverse. If your main trading account is on MT5 and you want to replicate trades to MT4 accounts, simply set the MT5 account as master and the MT4 accounts as slaves. The process is identical.

Beyond MT4 and MT5

ConnectXCopy doesn't stop at MT4 and MT5. You can also copy trades to and from cTrader, Match-Trader, DXtrade, and TradeLocker — in any combination. This means you could have an MT5 master copying to cTrader and TradeLocker slaves simultaneously.
