MT4 to MT5 Trade Copier

Keep trading on MT4 while an MT5 account follows every entry, close and stop change — at the same broker or a different one.

ConnectX Copy links an MT4 master to an MT5 destination so both accounts hold the same positions, sized independently. Because both ends are MetaTrader, this pairing keeps every capability the copier has: stops and targets copy at entry, later stop changes follow through, and pending orders can be copied too.

Both platforms receive a real-time tickets stream rather than being polled, so the copier reacts when the broker reports the trade instead of on the next poll cycle. MT4 → MT5 and MT5 → MT4 are the only two pairs in this set where that is true on both sides.

How MT4 → MT5 copying works

01

MT4 master is watched

The MT4 account is connected with its login, password and broker server, and its trade activity arrives on a push stream.

02

The order is translated

The symbol is matched to the MT5 broker’s name, the lot size is converted for the destination’s contract size, and your sizing mode is applied.

03

MT5 executes and stays in sync

The destination opens the position. Later closes, partial closes and stop changes on the master are mirrored.

What ConnectX Copy can copy on this pair

Including what it cannot. The limits are as useful as the features when you are choosing which account should lead.

  • Entry and close copying
  • Stop loss and take profit at entryControlled per copier by the Copy SL and Copy TP switches.
  • Stop changes after entryMT4, MT5 and Match-Trader have an order-modify path, so a stop moved on the master moves on the copy.
  • Pending ordersOptional. Pending orders on the master can be mirrored rather than only filled positions.
  • Partial closeA partial close on the master closes the same proportion on the destination.
  • Real-time stream on both sides
  • Reverse copyingThe destination can take the opposite side of every master trade.

Risk and lot-sizing controls

All five sizing modes apply: Fixed Lot, Lot Multiplier, Balance Multiplier, Fixed Balance Multiplier and Equity Multiplier. The destination trades its own size rather than the master’s.

Contract alignment is on by default and scales the lot by the ratio of master to destination contract size, then rounds to the destination’s own lot step.

Equity protection can close copied trades, or every trade on the account, at an equity stop-loss, take-profit or drawdown limit.

Filters restrict what is copied by symbol, lot range, direction, magic number or order comment, and a deliberate trade delay can be set.

Symbol mapping

Symbols are matched by normalising both names — slashes, dots, hashes and underscores are stripped — then trying an exact match, a prefix match, a bi-directional contains match, and finally contract-size proximity.

That resolves the common MT4/MT5 differences automatically, such as EURUSD against EURUSD.r or EURUSDm.

Where a broker uses a name the matcher cannot resolve, you can map the pair explicitly and the copier uses your mapping instead.

Platform-specific behaviour

MT5 destinations can be hedging or netting. On a netting account the broker aggregates positions per symbol, so two copied entries in the same direction become one larger position and a close behaves accordingly. MT4 is always hedging, so a one-to-one relationship between master and destination positions is only guaranteed when the MT5 account is also hedging.

MT5 brokers commonly list instruments MT4 does not carry. That direction is rarely a problem here, since the master is the MT4 account and its symbols are usually the smaller set.

Important limitations

  • A copied trade cannot be more precise than the destination allows: the final lot is rounded to the MT5 broker’s lot step, and a very small converted size can round down.
  • If the MT5 account is netting, per-position control is limited by the platform itself, not by the copier.

Setting it up

  1. 01Connect the MT4 account with its login, password and broker server.
  2. 02Connect the MT5 account the same way.
  3. 03Create a copier with MT4 as master and MT5 as destination.
  4. 04Choose a sizing mode, and switch Copy SL and Copy TP on if you want stops mirrored.
  5. 05Optionally enable pending order copying and arm equity protection, then start the copier.

Common use cases

Migrating from MT4 to MT5

Run both in parallel while you move across, without trading twice.

One strategy, two brokers

Keep an MT4 EA running and mirror it to an MT5 account at a different broker.

Funded account alongside a personal one

Copy a personal MT4 account onto a funded MT5 account with its own sizing and drawdown limits.

MT4 → MT5 questions

Do stop losses copy from MT4 to MT5?

Yes, both at entry and afterwards. MT4 and MT5 are the only platforms with an order-modify path, so moving a stop on the master moves it on the copy.

What if the two brokers name symbols differently?

The matcher normalises both names and tries exact, prefix, contains and contract-size matching. Anything it cannot resolve can be mapped explicitly.

Will the lot size be the same?

Only if you choose Fixed Lot with the same value. Otherwise the destination trades its own size, adjusted for the contract size difference and rounded to its lot step.

Can one MT4 account feed several MT5 accounts?

Yes. Create one copier per destination; they share the same master.

Do I need a VPS?

No. Both connections run in our cloud, so neither terminal has to stay open.
