Why Copy Between MT5 and cTrader?
MT5 and cTrader are the two most advanced retail trading platforms, but they serve different broker ecosystems. You might trade on MT5 for one broker's spreads while maintaining a cTrader account at another broker for specific instruments or a prop firm challenge.
The problem: these platforms have no native interoperability. ConnectXCopy bridges them through cloud-based trade replication.
Step 1: Add Your MT5 Account
Log in to your ConnectXCopy dashboard and go to Accounts > Add Account.
- Select MT5 as the platform
- Enter your MT5 account number and password
- Select your broker's server from the dropdown (3,000+ servers available)
- Click Connect
The system connects to your broker's MT5 server and verifies the credentials. You'll see your account balance, equity, and open positions within seconds.
Step 2: Add Your cTrader Account
Click Add Account again and select cTrader.
- cTrader uses OAuth authentication — you'll be redirected to the cTrader login page
- Log in with your cTrader ID credentials
- Authorize ConnectXCopy to access your account
- Select which cTrader account to connect (if you have multiple)
cTrader accounts connect via secure OAuth — ConnectXCopy never stores your cTrader password.
Step 3: Create a Copier
Go to Copiers > New Copier.
- Master: Select your MT5 account
- Slave: Select your cTrader account
- Lot sizing: Choose balance ratio (recommended) or fixed lot
- Copy SL/TP: Enable
- Equity protection: Set if desired (recommended for prop firm accounts)
Click Start Copier. Done. Every trade you place on MT5 will be replicated on your cTrader account in under 200 milliseconds.
Symbol Mapping Between MT5 and cTrader
MT5 and cTrader often use different symbol names. ConnectXCopy handles most mappings automatically. Common examples:
| MT5 Symbol | cTrader Symbol | Mapped? |
|---|---|---|
| EURUSD | EURUSD | Automatic |
| XAUUSD | XAUUSD | Automatic |
| US30 | US30 | Automatic |
| EURUSDm | EURUSD | Automatic (suffix stripped) |
If you trade exotic instruments with non-standard names, you can add custom symbol mappings in the copier settings.
Reverse Direction: cTrader to MT5
Everything works in both directions. To copy from cTrader to MT5, simply set the cTrader account as master and the MT5 account as slave when creating the copier.
Troubleshooting
- cTrader OAuth fails — Make sure you're logging in with your cTrader ID (not your broker's client portal login).
- Symbol not found — The slave broker may not offer the instrument. Add a custom symbol mapping or check if the instrument is available under a different name.
- Trade not copied — Check the copier status in the dashboard. Common causes: copier paused, equity protection triggered, or slave account has insufficient margin.
