Why Your Trade Copier Stopped Copying
Trade copier failures fall into a few categories: connection issues, configuration errors, symbol mapping problems, or account limitations. Here are the 10 most common causes and how to fix each one.
1. Account Disconnected
Symptoms: No trades are being copied at all. The copier shows "disconnected" status.
Fix: Check your account connection in the copier dashboard. If the account is disconnected, the most common cause is a password change. Re-enter your trading credentials. For EA-based copiers, this also happens when the VPS reboots or MetaTrader closes.
Cloud copier advantage: ConnectXCopy automatically reconnects after temporary disconnections without manual intervention.
2. Wrong Symbol Mapping
Symptoms: Some trades copy, others don't. Usually specific instruments fail.
Fix: The master trades EURUSD but the slave broker calls it EURUSDm or EURUSD.raw. Check your copier's symbol mapping settings and add a custom mapping for the failing instruments.
3. Insufficient Margin
Symptoms: Trade opens on master but the slave shows "insufficient margin" error.
Fix: The slave account doesn't have enough free margin for the copied trade. Either reduce the lot sizing (use a smaller multiplier or fixed lot) or deposit more funds to the slave account.
4. Equity Protection Triggered
Symptoms: Copier was working but suddenly stopped. Status shows "paused."
Fix: Your equity protection threshold was hit. The copier paused to protect the account from further losses. Review the account's performance, and when ready, manually resume the copier.
5. Market Is Closed
Symptoms: Trade placed on master during weekend or holiday, doesn't appear on slave.
Fix: Trading is only possible during market hours. Pending orders placed during closed hours will be synced when markets open. This is normal behavior.
6. Copier Is Paused
Symptoms: Nothing is copying. No error messages.
Fix: Check if the copier is in "paused" state. It may have been manually paused, or paused by equity protection. Resume it from the dashboard.
7. Lot Size Below Minimum
Symptoms: Master trades 0.01 lots, but the slave doesn't open a position.
Fix: With balance ratio or multiplier lot sizing, the calculated lot size might be below the broker's minimum (usually 0.01). The trade can't be placed. Adjust your lot sizing mode or multiplier to ensure positions meet the minimum.
8. Instrument Not Available
Symptoms: Master trades an instrument that doesn't exist on the slave broker.
Fix: Not all brokers offer the same instruments. If your master trades an exotic pair or CFD that the slave broker doesn't carry, the trade will fail. You can add symbol filters to skip specific instruments on certain copiers.
9. EA Conflict (EA-Based Copiers Only)
Symptoms: EA-based copier stops working after MetaTrader update.
Fix: MetaQuotes updates can break EAs. Restart MetaTrader and re-attach the EA. This is a common issue with local copiers and doesn't affect cloud-based copiers like ConnectXCopy.
10. Network or Server Issues
Symptoms: Intermittent copying failures, some trades copy with delays.
Fix: Check if the issue is on your broker's side by testing a manual trade. If broker servers are slow, copied trades will also be delayed. For VPS users, check VPS network connectivity.
